This elective course grounds itself initially by reviewing the New Testament and specifically focusing on the four Gospels. It then explores six main parts: (1) the historical setting of Jesus’ life and proclamation, (2) a discussion of Jesus’ message and ministry focusing on his proclaimed theme “the Kingdom of God”; Jesus’ sayings, teachings, stories, and actions are properly presented to shed light on his vision of the Kingdom, (3) Jesus’ last days which culminate with his death on the cross concluding his history on earth, (4) Then, a shift into the discussion of the Christ of faith emerges focusing on the people’s understanding of Jesus after the Resurrection, (5) an overview of Paul’s life and ministry and his understanding of the Christ of faith, and finally, (6) an introduction to the major church doctrines and credal statements about Jesus the Christ. This course will also cover the sacraments of Reconciliation, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick which provides the opportuntiy to meet Jesus besides prayer, scripture, and in others.
